#DisneyKids Playdate

We received free product to facilitate the #DisneyKids Playdate. All opinions expressed are my own.
Extra special thanks to the following playdate sponsors:

Walt Disney World is nothing short of magical. Perhaps one of the most magical parts about it is that even when you can't be there, you can bring the magic to your own home! That's what we did recently when we hosted a #DisneyKids Playdate for our daughter and her princess friends!

For our #DisneyKids Playdate, we pulled together our favorite snacks, our favorite Disney music, some fun crafts, games, and activities, and we decorated with Disney themed party supplies. We handed out Disney themed party favors including bags, posters, hats, and more, from characters like Sofia the First, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and The Lion Guard. All of this added together equaled a super fun playdate!

We were able to capture and share our playdate memories with the help of HP. We took photos using the Pocketbooth app and printed them on HP Photo Booth Strips. Each of our friends got to bring some pictures home with them to help them remember all the fun we had.

A playdate wouldn't be complete without coloring and crafts! At our #DisneyKids Playdate, we crafted with I Love to Create using Tulip's Puffy Paint and Aleene's Tacky Glue. We created some Disney Junior themed hand puppets and colored lots and lots of pictures that we printed right off the Disney Junior website.

We read the most fantastically creative book together - My Very, Very Smelly Breath - Banfield Pet Hospital's second children's book. Written from the perspective of a dog, this scratch-and-sniff story helps children and pet owners understand the importance of helping their pets keep their mouth's clean. My 5 year old has been very concerned about us keeping our dog's mouth clean since reading this book. Let me tell you something - the dog in this book has VERY smelly breath! You can smell it right on the page! Thankfully there are lots of good scents on the following pages to help you forget the nastiness you'll smell in the beginning! The kids loved this book.

We also went on a Kilimanjaro Safari at our playdate - just like at Disney's Animal Kingdom! We searched for hidden safari animals throughout our home. Each child was very excited to take their discovered animals home!

Of course, we had a photo booth! We posed for lots of fun pictures here and after printing on our HP Photo Booth Paper, we packed copies of the photos for everyone in Disney themed GLAD sandwich bags and sent them home as souvenirs.

And since princesses love to dance, we danced, danced, danced, and danced some more, to our favorite Disney Junior music! Princess dancing never gets old at our playdates... but it does get loud... and certainly makes for some very blurry photographs!

We love bringing a little pixie dust into our home by hosting Disney themed playdates. It's the next best thing to visiting Walt Disney World itself! The #DisneyKids Playdate was a very special time for all of our princess friends.

Visit www.disneyworld.com/preschool for great information on planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation with your littles!

We're hosting a #DisneySide @ Home Celebration! *Link up your parties here!*

I received free products in order to host the Disney Side @ Home Celebration.
The opinions expressed here are my own.

One of my favorite things to find is an email from my friends at Disney Parks and Mom Select! Today we were offered another opportunity host a Disney Side @ Home Celebration and we could not be more excited!

We love showing our #DisneySide and there is no better way to do that than with great friends! Have you had a chance to check out our past Disney themed parties?

Last winter we hosted a super fun Mickey and Minnie themed party for a bunch of our favorite family friends.

And just a couple of months ago we hosted the sweetest Sofia the First Disney Kids Preschool Playdate for our favorite preschool princesses.

We can't wait to start planning our next celebration!

We are always looking for new ideas to add to our next party... do you have any to share?

Or you can leave your links in the comments below!

A Fantastic Night at Disney On Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy Presented by Stonyfield YoKids Organic Yogurt!

We were provided with complimentary tickets through Feld Entertainment in exchange for promoting this event. All opinions expressed are my own.

We were so excited to be able to attend Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy Presented by Stonyfield YoKids Organic Yogurt, on opening night at the Agganis Arena in Boston this weekend! We are huge fans of most anything "Disney," and I grew up attending Disney on Ice yearly. The last time we went, I was pregnant with our now four year old daughter. We've been thinking about going since she was born but she's always been a little bit timid about it. Even when we were invited to attend this year's program, she wasn't sure she was ready to accept the offer. Well... she is glad she made the choice to go... and her parents are too!

Disney Kids Preschool Playdate

We received free products from Walt Disney World Resort and MomSelect in order to host the Disney Kids Preschool Playdate. The opinions expressed here are my own.

To say we were honored to be asked, as part of the Disney Social Media Moms team, to host a #DisneyKids Preschool Playdate would be an understatement! We love working with our friends at Walt Disney World Resort and MomSelect and we love the focus they have on making sure that families are aware of all of the fun and practical ways that Walt Disney World meets the needs of preschoolers.

You may remember that we had a blast at our #DisneySide @ Home Celebration earlier this year so when we were invited again to have a party to share some Disney magic with our friends, we couldn't wait to start planning!

Disney Social Media Moms On-The-Road Philadelphia 2014

Earlier this summer I had the privilege of being invited to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration On-The-Road in Philadelphia.  It was such an exciting honor to attend!  What a whirlwind day full of fun, learning, challenge, inspiration, and many good friends!  My husband and I joked about the fact that we drove 6 hours to attend a 4 hour event.  Well, let me tell you something...  we would do it again in a heartbeat!  It was worth every second in that car (although hopefully next year it's in Boston... either that or we will fly!).

Here's a glimpse into some of my favorite moments from the day...

Special thanks to all of the organizers, facilitators, and sponsors of this event.  The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration Team is amazing!  I am so incredibly grateful to have been a part of this special day!

Mickey and Minnie Mouse Paper Chain

We made this super cute Mickey and Minnie paper chain garland decoration for our Disney themed party over three months ago and it still hangs over a doorway in our house!  It was such an easy (although a bit tedious) project and it really helped set the mood for our fun day.

You'll see that we used black for Mickey and Minnie's heads, red for their clothes, white for their buttons and polka dots, yellow for their shoes, and white for their hands... or to separate them... however you want to interpret it...  Get it?!  We also used some pink for Minnie's bows... I intended to use red to match her skirt but my 3 year old informed me that Minnie doesn't wear red, she wears pink... oh, how times have changed!

Here's what you'll need:
  • construction paper - black, red, yellow, white
  • hole punch
  • tape or glue
  • ear template (small circle shape with a tab to attach to the black loops)
  • bow template (small bow with a tab to attach to alternating heads)
  • a little helper

Here's what you'll do:
  • cut strips of construction paper in desired width
  • trace and cut ears out of black paper and bows out of pink or red paper
  • punch out lots of little white dots
  • loop paper strips inside of one another, alternating colors, and secure with tape or glue
  • attach ears and bows
  • attach dots
  • hang and show your DisneySide!

I am so excited that one week from today I'll be showing my DisneySide at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration On The Road in Philadelphia!  I hope you'll follow along from home if you won't be there in person!

Thankfully when I return home, I'll still have my Mickey and Minnie decorations to greet me and keep me in the Disney spirit!

BUT, you don't need a party or a conference to show your DisneySide... how do you show yours?

Mickey Mouse Sun Catchers

Crafting sun catchers is so easy and fun and the outcome is super cute!  We did this with three and four year olds and they needed a bit of assistance from grown-ups, but not much.  You could certainly make these with older kids as well and create more elaborate designs, sizes, and themes if desired.  This is a perfect party activity or even something fun for a rainy day!  We've made them in some different shapes but we'll stick with Mickey on the blog today as we gear up for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration next month!

What you'll need:
  • Clear transparency paper
  • Colored construction paper or card stock
  • Tissue paper or streamers cut into small pieces
  • Liquid glue
  • Water
  • Small bowls
  • Paintbrushes

What you'll do:
  • Create a Mickey Mouse template on paper and trace onto construction paper or card stock.  You will need two Mickeys for each sun catcher.
  • Cut out the Mickeys and then cut a circle out of the center of each, leaving the ears intact, if desired.
  • Trace the Mickey Mouse template onto transparency paper and cut them out.  You will need two of these per sun catcher as well.
  • Add a small amount of water to a small amount of glue in each bowl and mix with paintbrush.  It should be quite runny.
  • Place small pieces of tissue paper onto one transparency sheet of Mickey's head and gently brush over with diluted glue.  Continue to add tissue paper until the center is covered.  You can skip the ears because they will be hidden by the construction paper.
  • Brush glue onto the second transparency sheet of Mickey's head and place over top of tissue paper.
  • Brush glue onto edges and ears of construction paper Mickeys and add one to the top and one to the bottom.
  • Once dry, you can set it in the window or punch a hole and hang from a string.

These are so cute and versatile!  Simply make a different template for any theme you love!

Mickey Mouse Washer Necklace

During the planning process for our Disney party this past winter, I scoured Pinterest looking for every Disney themed craft, project, recipe, and party favor I could find.  I came across the sweetest Mickey Mouse necklaces made from washers and I knew they would be perfect for us!  Here's why:
  • My daughter and all of her 3 and 4 year old friends would love the sparkly glamorousness of Mickey Mouse jewelry.
  • My husband would help me make them since, even though they were jewelry, they were made out of things from the hardware store.
I was right about both things!

Mickey Mouse Washer Necklace

These necklaces were a huge hit at our party.  They were not difficult to make and they really added a fun touch to our celebration.

Here's what you'll need:
  • Appropriately sized flat washers, 2 small and 1 large for each necklace (Just play around with them at the store a bit and see which ones look right for the size you are going for)
  • Nail polish (I used red and sparkly)
  • Gorilla glue
  • String
  • Beads
  • Clamp or clothespin to hold washers in place while the glue dries

Here's what you'll do:
  • Cover your work surfaces.  You don't want nail polish or gorilla glue getting on anything!
  • Paint all of your washers with nail polish.  I put 2 layers of red and then covered with a layer of glittery goodness after the washers were glued together.
  • Once dry, add string and bead as seen in photo
  • Glue the two small washers onto the larger washer for ears (this was my husband's job so if you need more details, let me know!)
  • Once dry, scrape off any excess glue
  • Add nail polish to cover any glue you couldn't scrape off.  I was making these for 3 and 4 year olds so they did not need to be perfect.  You may choose to use more care in glue application than we did.

I'm Going to Disney Social Media Moms Celebration On-The-Road!

This week I was extended a very exciting invitation and I just submitted my RSVP!  I was invited by MomSelect and the Disney Parks Social Media Moms Celebration Team to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration On-The-Road this summer!

I should give some context by saying that earlier this spring, I received the most shocking and exciting email ever.  It came to me, totally unexpectedly one evening, from Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Special Events, inviting me to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at Disneyland in California, an invitation only conference for about 200 bloggers from all over the country.  You don't apply for it… you just get noticed and invited.  It was such an honor to receive this invitation.  It's kind of like the invitation you can't refuse… except that I did.  I remember googling, "Can you say no to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration?"  It was so sad!  I cannot even describe the pit in my stomach when I had to RSVP with a big fat "no thanks."  If I had had any inkling that I would have been invited, my schedule would have been clear and I would have had a little savings account ready to access to get us there!  But I had no expectation of being invited to this event at all.  Unfortunately airfare from here to California was through the roof and we had literally just planned another trip for within a month of that one.  There was just no way for our family to swing it.  Needless to say, I was devastated.

That celebration has since come and gone, and I have to say, even though I wasn't able to attend in person, I followed along on social media and felt like I was practically there!  The attendees were live tweeting, instagram-ing, and facebook-ing throughout.  It was fantastic and actually a whole lot of fun to be a part of, even from home!  I learned a lot and was actually really grateful for the opportunity!

The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration Team wants to include as many moms as possible in their events so they have created some On-The-Road Celebrations at scattered locations throughout the summer and have extended invitations to those over the past week.  Pixie dust landed in my email inbox again on Monday and I'm headed to Philadelphia with my family this summer for what I think will be a super fun, super informative, super motivating, and super amazing half day conference.  I couldn't be more excited!

I'll be live social-media-ing (is that a word?!) the event, so I hope you'll follow along the way I did to the Celebration at Disneyland!  The big day is Thursday, June 19, and we'll be going strong from 7:30 AM through 12:30 PM, so be ready!  You can follow me at any of these locations but I expect twitter to be the most active:

Sing Into Spring! Walt Disney Records Review & Giveaway!

I was sent a complimentary collection of Disney Music CDs by Walt Disney Records as part of Entertainment New Media Network.  Giveaway is sponsored through the network, by Take Time For Today, with prizes provided by Walt Disney Records.
All opinions expressed are my own.

I. cannot. stop. singing. Disney. songs.

It's the truth.  I can't stop!  Disney songs are catchy and fun and there is just no way to listen and not sing along!  I have a 3 1/2 year old (going on 14) who said to me the other day, with an annoyed teenager look on her face (yes, she's 3 1/2), "I already told you.  Stop singing.  Your voice is NOT like HERS."  She was referring to Elsa from Frozen.  I was speechless.

Walt Disney Records, helping to feed my Disney singing obsession, was kind enough to send us a Sing Into Spring Gift Bag which included four amazing CDs that both my daughter and I have been singing along to non stop!  (Sometimes I wonder if my husband sings along with them too when he's in the car alone but he would never confess it.)  Here is what's been playing at our house recently...

Doc McStuffins ~ The Doc Is In
We LOVE Doc.  period.  She, her friends, and her songs, are amazing!  My daughter would like you to know that her favorite song from this CD is when Doc and Lambie sing together, "A Lambie Like You."  These songs are so catchy and you'll have the whole CD memorized within the first day, guaranteed.

Jake and the Never Land Pirates ~
Yo Ho, Matey!
My daughter would like you to know that her favorite song from this CD is "Yo Ho Mateys" or yelling "Yo Ho, Let's Go!" in general.  We love Jake and his friends (especially Izzy, "the one with the pixie dust") so singing along with him and his friends is always a blast.

DJ Shuffle
This CD is the absolutely amazingly PERFECT compilation of what I guarantee are your favorite Disney Junior Songs.  If you're wanting to buy the soundtrack CD to every Disney Junior show but can't afford to buy them all, you will love this.  It includes songs from Sofia the First, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Doc McStuffins, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Henry Hugglemonster, and Sheriff Callie's Wild West.  It also includes four bonus karaoke instrumental songs and lyrics are included for those songs as well.  My daughter would like you to know that her favorite songs from this CD are all of the ones from Sofia and Doc.  I would like you to know that my favorite song from this CD is the DJ Shuffle, itself!  Have you heard this catchy tune yet?!  "Robot to the left... robot to the right... roll it out... hop to it!"  Check out the DJ Shuffle Music Video here.  You won't regret it!

Frozen Soundtrack
Aaaaaaah.  We love the Frozen soundtrack and you will too.  It kind of borders on a grown up CD because it includes not only the catchy sing along songs but also the instrumentals.  I tell you this in case you need an excuse to get this for yourself since your kids probably don't let you sing along in front of them.  My daughter would like you to know that her favorite song from this CD is "Let it Go."  Surprised?  Doubtful!  I'm sure it might be your favorite too!  Oh!  You should also know that this CD comes with lyrics!  WOOT!

You can win a Preschool or Tween Sing Into Spring Gift Bag!

Walt Disney Records has offered to send a Sing Into Spring Gift Bag to TWO of my readers as well!  You can choose from the Preschool set that I reviewed and a Tween set.  Each of them includes the popular Frozen Soundtrack!

Preschool Set
(Disney Junior favorites)
Doc McStuffins ~ The Doc Is In
Jake and the Never Land Pirates ~ Yo Ho, Matey!
DJ Shuffle
Frozen Soundtrack

Tween Set
(Disney Channel favorites)

So below, you will see two separate rafflecopter giveaways, one for the Preschool Gift Bag and one for the Tween Gift Bag.  You may choose to enter either one or both, but you will only be able to win one, so if by chance your name is randomly chosen twice, an alternate winner will be assigned to one.  Just follow the instructions within the rafflecopter widget and you'll be good to go!  There are several different entry options and you can choose to do one or many.  Some even let you come back day after day for more entries!

Minnie (or Mickey) Fruit Pizza

Please tell me you know it's true that everything tastes better when it's Minnie or Mickey themed!  When we were in the planning stages of our recent Disney Side @ Home Celebration, I searched Pinterest to find any possible Disney themed food to add to our spread.  I found this super cute Mickey Fruit Pizza idea from Craisins, also one of the sponsors of our party!  I used their idea as inspiration but used my own recipe, our favorite fruits, and some creative placement and came up with this beauty.

I will be honest that I had minimal fridge space with so many other treats already prepared so I pulled this decorating together within the 45 minute rush before our guests were scheduled to arrive.  I had prepared the cookie crust in advance the night before, whipped up the icing about a half hour earlier, and then assembled at the last minute.  I intended to follow the exact set up of the Craisins pizza but panicked that it wouldn't look like Mickey in the end so I skipped the face details and just made an outline of the head with the fruit.  I added the Minnie bow at the last second on a whim and am so glad I did!

Super cute, super colorful, and super easy!  This is such a fun and delicious treat.  Why wait for a Disney party?!  Surprise your family today!

Ingredients

Crust:
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/3 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Icing:
  • 8 ounce package of cream cheese, softenend
  • 2 tablespoons frozen limeade concentrate
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Decorations:
  • purple grapes
  • green grapes
  • blueberries
  • strawberries
  • canned pineapple
  • canned mandarin oranges

Directions

Crust:
  • Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and vanilla with electric mixer until fluffy
  • Add flour, baking soda, and salt, and mix gently with a spoon until combined with wet ingredients
  • Spread by hand onto a greased pizza pan
  • Bake at 375 for 12 minutes
  • Cool completely
  • (I prepared this the night before and stored covered on the counter.)
Icing:
  • Beat cream cheese, limeade, and powdered sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth
  • Spread on crust
  • (Original instructions from Pillsbury suggest that you serve immediately or refrigerate up to 2 hours prior to serving.  I didn't spread it the night before because I didn't want the crust to get soggy before the party.)
Decorations:
  • Cut fruit into bite sized pieces (we had 3-4 year olds at our party so I wanted to make sure those grapes were quartered, etc)
  • Lightly trace outline of the mouse head in the icing with a knife and then place your fruit accordingly!
  • It's so easy, and if you mess up, just start over.  This is fool proof... you can do it!

We kept our fruit pizza intact until we just couldn't bear the wait of eating it any longer and then we sliced with a pizza cutter.  Next time I may try to cut the pizza after icing and before decorating so that it stays pretty longer.  I'm not sure whether it would work but it might be worth a try.  If you try it, let me know how it goes!

We stored out leftovers covered in the fridge.  It does get a little bit soggy but still delicious... you just wouldn't want to serve the leftovers to guests necessarily.  It's best served fresh!

Recipe adapted from Craisins, Pillsbury, and a recipe I got years ago from a friend!

Special thanks to Keiko S. Dowell Photography for the image!

Enjoy!

Our Disney Side @ Home Celebration!

I received free products in order to host the Disney Side @ Home Celebration.
The opinions expressed here are my own.

Just a little over a week ago we hosted our Disney Side @ Home Celebration.  I've thought about blogging about it every day since then but I think I needed this time to decompress after all that fun!  This experience was such a whirlwind of excitement, one in which we have been so grateful to participate!

Let me start by saying thank you to the amazing sponsors that were involved in this promotion... Disney Parks, Mom Select, American Tourister, Ocean Spray, HP, ESPN/Run Disney, ABC's The Chew.  I also want to thank my sweet friend Keiko, from Keiko S. Dowell Photography who so artistically and touchingly captured the joy of this day in photographs for us without even being asked to do so.  Actually, will you go give Keiko some facebook love to help me thank her?  There are more pictures from our party to see there too!  And thank you SO MUCH to all of our special friends who joined us in showing our Disney Side!  We would not have had nearly as much fun without you!

Our celebration included a Disney Side playlist including music from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Minnie's Bowtique, Doc McStuffins, and Disney Princesses.  We wore Disney costumes (unplanned, but these girls really know how to show their Disney Side!).  We decorated our house with tons of balloons and Mickey and Minnie decor.  (Did I say thank you to my amazing husband for blowing up every single balloon?  There had to have been more than 50!)  We packed up goodie bags for each of our guests with lots of homemade things such as Mickey Mouse puzzles, Minnie Mouse bubble wands, Pixie Dust play dough, Minnie Mouse ears, and Mickey Mouse necklaces as well as lots of goodies from the Disney Side sponsors.  We served Mickey and Minnie themed food and drinks.  We played with Pixie Dust play dough, colored Disney Junior coloring sheets, made Mickey Mouse sun catchers, and had a Mickey beanbag toss.  We played, we laughed, we smiled, we sang, we danced, we talked, we blew noisemakers, and we watched in awe as two newborn babies slept through it all!

Did I mention we laughed?  We laughed!

Taken right from the Disney Side Celebrations website...

"Everyone has a Disney Side - that fun-loving adventurous spirit
that comes out to play when you're feeling the Disney magic!"

Let me tell you, we felt the Disney magic at our celebration like we never have before!  Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what I'm talking about...

Learn how to make your own Mickey sun catchers here!

Here are instructions for making Mickey Washer Necklaces!

DIY Minnie ears are so easy! Here's a tutorial.

This day would not have been the same without all of those I listed above.  But saying that does not mean that a Disney Side @ Home Celebration needs sponsors, photographers, or amazing balloon blowing husbands!  All you need for a Disney Side @ Home Celebration is a Disney Side... and trust me, we all have one of those!  There is also a lot of great content that you can review and download on the Disney Side Celebrations website to help you plan your celebration and it's being updated often.  Also, follow along on social media ~ facebook, twitter, pinterest, or instagram ~ just follow #DisneySide to get even more ideas!

I've had several of my daughter's preschool classmates ask me when we are going to have our next Disney Side @ Home Celebration.  Let's do it again soon!

You can view even more pictures of our magical day here.

Here's a video with some inside scoop on planning your own Disney Side @ Home Celebration... on a budget!
