We are always looking for new educational games to add to the iPad. Our four year old daughter loves to use it and when she does, we love having healthy games available that keep her brain working. She certainly learns a lot in pre-k but I feel that she has certainly benefited from educational apps in terms of preparing her for school and reinforcing what she is learning there.
We recently had the opportunity to try and review three educational apps from Kids Academy. Both free and paid versions of these apps are available in iTunes.
Preschool and Kindergarten learning kids games free for toddler
By Kids Academy Co apps: Preschool & Kindergarten Learning Kids Games, Educational Books, Free Songs
This app allows for practice of both letters and numbers. There are three different games available in the free version of the app, a number tracing and counting game, a letter identification and word game, and a letter tracing game with both uppercase and lowercase practice. Each game includes bright, colorful, bold graphics, fun and upbeat music and sounds, and tons of positive reinforcement. The games are easy to understand, easy to use, fun, and engaging. Although my four year old got a little bored with only three letters and numbers available to practice with in the free version, she would certainly enjoy using the paid version with a larger range of letters and numbers to practice with. I do think she has almost outgrown these games in terms of skill level so four years old is probably the upper limit in terms of age appropriateness for this app.ABCs alphabet phonics & Montessori learn to read app for toddler

This app allows for practice of letter recognition, phonetic sounds, letter tracing, easy mazes, and rhyming. The app makes learning fun by using games to teach and allow for practice of basic early learner skills. Each game includes bright, colorful, bold graphics, fun and upbeat music and sounds, and tons of positive reinforcement. The easy mazes are really easy even for a four year old but the rhyming activities did give her some challenge. I imagine the paid version of the app with additional levels and activities would be even more exciting.

Kids Academy has done a really nice job of putting together some very appealing apps for children. As I stated earlier, my daughter at four years old seems to be on the upper end in terms of age appropriateness. We love the bright colors and graphics, interactive themes, great music, and fun learning opportunities that these apps offer.
